- Healing Yoga for Cancer
Open to anyone, this class is specifically beneficial for anyone living with, or recovering from, any form of cancer. During this class students will explore a restorative combination of gentle yet active asana (poses) as well as stress-relieving breathing exercises to induce healing and relaxation. The therapeutic techniques are specifically chosen and sequenced to emphasize the whole person and to support and awaken the healthy being within all of us. No prior yoga experience necessary. Family and friends are always welcome."This Yoga class is the one truly healing activity I've participated in since my cancer diagnosis 8 years ago."
–Deena Glass, Alta Bates Comprehensive Cancer Center - Healing Yoga for Seniors
This class applies the principles of Healing Yoga to help us age gracefully, addressing many of the common age-related changes in all of our physical systems. In addition to the many benefits of the practice for your body and mind, you will have an increased sense of well-being, as you learn to live each precious moment more fully. Bidyut has been teaching yoga to seniors for decades. No prior yoga experience necessary; all levels welcome!"It makes me feel wonderful - I'm 88 and I wish I had begun this practice 40 years ago. I can't say enough in favor of it!"
– Yoga for Seniors participant - Heart-Centered Yoga
The goal of Heart-Centered Yoga is to connect to the heart through a life-affirming practice. We align our physical and energetic bodies to honor and support the innate goodness within ourselves. Through asana, pranayama, and intention, we tap into the universal pulsation of life and celebrate its entire spectrum of offerings. - Iyengar yoga
Iyengar yoga emphasizes precise alignment of the body and points of stability within each asana (posture/pose). Each asana is held to absorb instructions, building endurance, stamina and poise. Props such as blocks, chairs, blankets, etc. are used to facilitate student ability and make the asanas accessible to all. - Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga draws on Hatha Yoga postures, breathing techniques, physical locks, hand gestures, sets of movements, chanting, meditation and visualization. Benefits of Kundalini Yoga include balancing the energy systems in the body, including the brain, glandular and nervous systems, which helps one function at a consistently higher level, without exhausting the body. - Mindful Vinyasa
Mindful Vinyasa links movement with breath, employing long holds in postures, breathing exercises, and meditation to cultivate mindfulness on and off the mat. Options and modifications are provided to make this class accessible and challenging for all levels. - Post-natal Class
New mothers will practice breath work and yoga asanas to facilitate relaxation and a calm mind. Touch is one of the first forms of infant communication that babies respond to and understand. Learn to support your infant’s development through gentle loving massage. Mom and baby will be guided through a feeding meditation (mother can be breast feeding or not, bring bottle if not breast feeding). This allows the feeding time to be a stress free, enjoyable time of bonding in which both mom and baby can drift to a deep relaxed state.
**You and your baby should come dressed in comfortable clothes. Please bring blankets for your baby to lay on and scentless massage oil (example vitamin E). - Pre-natal Yoga
Using the gifts of yoga, breath work, massage, and meditation, mothers-to-be are able to release fears surrounding pregnancy and delivery, as well as prepare their bodies for secure and supported pregnancy with an easier delivery. - Raja Yoga
Raja Yoga is the yoga of mindfulness, where yoga poses and breathing techniques come together to prepare your body and mind for meditation, the fascinating journey within. In addition to the many benefits of the practice for your body and mind, you will be gently guided to connect with your authentic self, the wellspring of love and compassion, fearlessness and freedom, joy and peace."This has really expanded and deepened my yoga practice - life enhancing and life-changing. Thank you!"
– Raja Yoga class participant - Rooted Rising Yoga
Rooted Rising Yoga is suitable for all levels with a deep focus on mind, body and spirit alignment. The journey will always be about drawing on the deep intuitive awareness of the self. Connecting from within and allowing that connection to take form in our outer being. We will do this through rooting into our foundation, rising up into form as we allow our breath to lead the way. - Tai Chi (Ages 4.5 and up)
The idea of growth and support is at the root of this Tai Chi class. This class is open to all levels, individuals, and families with children ages 4-1/2 and up. If coming with a child, at least one parent/caregiver is required to participate. Adults and children will join together to share the benefits of this positive physical and spiritual practice. - Therapeutic Yoga
The Therapeutic Yoga class is for those students with injuries who wish to help themselves to heal from injuries, as well as to obtain full therapeutic benefit from yoga. In this class modified poses are practiced that target specific injuries. These poses have been shown to benefit people with back strain, chronic back pain, sciatica, neck strain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and many other musculo-skeletal conditions. On some days, after class, a complimentary 15-minute therapeutic massage will be offered by the assistant teacher, a licensed massage therapist.
- Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is the practice of holding various postures for longer periods of time; sometimes as long as 5-10 minutes. Practicing the postures in this way allows one a deeper relationship with the subtle aspects of practice; and this in turn allows the body to relax in a way that creates access to the underlying layers of connective tissue. Due to the length of time in each posture, the majority of yin yoga consists of a gentle floor-based and meditative practice, and depth of experience arises naturally.
